What can you do with a photo?

Using the picture of the fungus growing out of the rock I would do the following to relate it to perseverance.

I would ask students what perseverance is?

How does this photo depict perseverance?

I would respond to their ideas and add points from the following list that are missed.

-the spores travelled and happened to land in the crack of a rock. Not the most hospitable place to grow.

- The spores found just enough material to germinate in.

- the small fungi began to grow despite the very cramped location, lack of organic material, water and sunlight.

- it persevered to grow out of the crack and flourish despite all the limitations.

- I’m sure the original fungi released spores and thus three more fungi emerged and persevered.

So, despite all the challenges the little spore persevered to live and multiply.
